US accepts international assistance for Gulf spill

Finally!!

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The United States is accepting help from 12 countries and international organizations in dealing with the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The State Department said in a statement Tuesday that the U.S. is working out the particulars of the help that's been accepted.

U.S. Beaches That The Oil Spill May Ruin Forever

If Obama had done his job, much of this need not happen.

The First OILCANE Will Be Worse Than Anything We've Seen

Obama is making things much worse.

The gulf oil spill is bad but it could become much, much worse and soon. The threat is a hurricane moving over the spill. If a hurricane’s violent winds track over the spill, we could witness a natural and economic calamity that history has never recorded anywhere or anytime. We will literally be in oil-soaked waters. We will have witnessed the first oilicane.

Obama aide 'forgot' 37G in union pay

Amazing how often this happens to Obama aids and appointees. Just bad luck, eh?

WASHINGTON -- A former top official for a huge New York union who is now the White House political director failed to disclose more than $37,000 in income from the union last year, it was reported yesterday.

As the former public-affairs executive for Service Employees International Union Local 1199, Patrick Gaspard earned $37,191 in carried-over pay while on the White House payroll.

He failed to disclose the income on financial-disclosure forms, Politico reported. Where arrangements for payment by a former employer must be listed on the form, he checked a box indicating he had nothing to report.

Michael Mann says hockey stick should not have become 'climate change icon'

He was for it before he was against it.

But the graph was questioned by sceptics who pointed out that is it impossible to know for certain the global temperature going back beyond modern times because there were no accurate readings.

The issue became a central argument in the climate change debate and was dragged into the 'climategate' scandal, as the sceptics accused Prof Mann and his supporters of exaggerating the extent of global warming.

However, speaking to the BBC recently, Prof Mann, a climatologist at Pennsylvania State University, said he had always made clear there were "uncertainties" in his work.

"I always thought it was somewhat misplaced to make it a central icon of the climate change debate," he said.

Really? I never heard him say it.

The Side Effects of the Afghanistan Rules of Engagement

If you're going to fight a war...

Many Afghans are not happy with this policy, with foreign troops increasingly encountering angry Afghan civilians, who demand that NATO act more decisively in pursuing and killing Taliban gunman. Even if it puts Afghan civilians at risk. This is an unexpected side effect to the change in NATO rules of engagement (ROE) in Afghanistan. The ROE change was partly in response to popular (or at least media) anger at civilians killed by American smart bombs. As a result of the new ROE, it became much more difficult to get permission drop a smart bomb when there might be civilians nearby. Now American commanders have to decide who they shall respond too; Afghan civilians asking for relief from Taliban oppression, or Taliban influenced media condemning the U.S. for any Afghan civilians killed, or thought to be killed, by American firepower. What to do? So far, the decision often favors the survival of the Taliban.

Sex complaint against Gore is detailed, credible

This isn't over yet.

The allegation that Al Gore sexually assaulted a woman in a Portland, Ore., hotel room nearly four years ago has dealt a serious blow to the former vice president's story that he and wife Tipper simply "grew apart" after 40 years of marriage.

The police report of the masseuse's complaint is 73 pages long and extremely detailed. According to the document, she got a call from the front desk of the trendy Hotel Lucia on the night of Oct. 24, 2006. The hotel had a special guest. Could she come at 10:30 p.m.?

No skimmers in sight as oil floods into Mississippi waters

Another Obama epic fail.

GULFPORT, Miss. — A morning flight over the Mississippi Sound showed long, wide ribbons of orange-colored oil for as far as the eye could see and acres of both heavy and light sheen moving into the Sound between the barrier islands. What was missing was any sign of skimming operations from Horn Island to Pass Christian.

U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor got off the flight angry.

"It’s criminal what’s going on out there," Taylor said minutes later. "This doesn’t have to happen.”

A scientist onboard, Mike Carron with the Northern Gulf Institute, said with this scenario, there will be oil on the beaches of the mainland.

“There’s oil in the Sound and there was no skimming,” Carron said. “No coordinated effort.”

Launched in Britain last week, the £500 handset has been dogged by technical problems.

Petraeus Makes First Moves To Change Afghanistan Rules Of Engagement

Good for him.

Gen David Petraeus, the new US commander in Afghanistan, is to review the controversial doctrine of “courageous restraint”, according to Pentagon sources.

He is to re-examine the rules which some soldiers believe have prevented them from defending themselves.

“There will be no change in overall policy but all aspects of tactics and implementation will be looked at afresh,” a Pentagon official told The Daily Telegraph. “The issue of ‘courageous restraint’ is a controversial one on the ground and there may be ways it can be modified.”

Florida closes down oil-stained Pensacola beaches

Terrible, just terrible.

Oil from the massive Gulf of Mexico spill reached the white sands of Pensacola in north-eastern Florida, forcing local authorities Thursday to close down area beaches to swimming at the height of summer.

"There's oil both in the water and in the sand," said Warren Bielenberg, an official with the Gulf Islands National Seashore, one of the areas affected by the spill.

Youths attack Jewish dance group in Germany

This is the place Helen Thomas wanted them to "go back" to.

BERLIN – Arab youths threw stones at a Jewish dance group during a street festival in Hannover, injuring one dancer and forcing the group to cancel its performance, German police and dance officials said Thursday.

The teenagers also used a megaphone to shout anti-Semitic slurs during the attack Saturday, Hannover police spokesman Thorsten Schiewe said.

Harris: Obama knew of Blagojevich plot

Sounds kind of weak to me.

A top aide to former Gov. Rod Blagojevich said he believed Barack Obama knew of Blagojevich's plot to win himself a presidential Cabinet post in exchange for appointing Valerie Jarrett to the U.S. Senate.

John Harris, Blagojevich's former chief of staff, testified Wednesday in the former governor's corruption trial that three days after the Nov. 4, 2008, presidential election, the ex-governor told Harris he felt confident Obama knew he wanted to swap perks.

"The president understands that the governor would be willing to make the appointment of Valerie Jarrett as long as he gets what he's asked for. . . . The governor gets the Cabinet appointment he's asked for," Harris said, explaining a recorded call.

Harris said Blagojevich came away believing Obama knew what he wanted after having a conversation with a local union representative, who in turn spoke with labor leader Tom Balanoff, with whom Blagojevich met to discuss a Jarrett appointment. Jarrett, now a White House adviser, was seeking the appointment to Obama's Senate seat.

Spain’s vaunted green jobs vaporizing

And yet Obama wants us to follow them.

June 22 (Bloomberg) — Spanish factories making solar panels operated at 25 percent of capacity last year as domestic demand for solar generators evaporated, the Photovoltaic Industry Association said.

Three quarters of the panels produced in Spain were exported as installation of new photovoltaic plants in the country declined by 99 percent compared with 2008, the Madrid- based lobby group said in a press note today.

This sort of deflates Obama’s talk, looking to Spain as an inspiration for green jobs.

TV Journalists Praise Obama's 'Brilliant' Handling of McChrystal Controversy

So, no more "Gen Betrayus" then?

During live special coverage leading up to the announcement in the 1PM ET hour on CBS, White House correspondent Chip Reid proclaimed "it sounds like a pretty brilliant decision really." At the same time on NBC, correspondent Jim Miklaszewski described it as a "stunning development" and added "at a quick glance, almost brilliant." Minutes later, White House correspondent Chuck Todd declared: "Politically, in this town, it's going to be seen as a brilliant choice by the President."

Over on CNN, moments after Obama finished speaking, anchor Wolf Blitzer remarked that it was a "major moment for this President" and later hailed "a very brilliant move to tap General Petraeus." Finally, in the 2PM ET hour on MSNBC, Meet the Press host David Gregory concluded: "I think he took swift and decisive action. I think that's how it's going to be read."

Gore implicated in sex assault on Portland masseuse

This would be huge news if he were a Republican.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Vice President Al Gore was accused of repeated, unwanted sexual contact with a massage therapist at a Portland hotel room in 2006, according to police reports.

The woman told police she was "repeatedly subjected to unwanted sexual touching" in Gore's hotel room at the Hotel Lucia, according to the police report.

Confidence Waning in Obama, U.S. Outlook

Obama's epic fail.

Sixty-two percent of adults in the survey feel the country is on the wrong track, the highest level since before the 2008 election. Just one-third think the economy will get better over the next year, a 7-point drop from a month ago and the low point of Mr. Obama's tenure.

The Palestinian Authority is placing a fuel embargo on Gaza

Did you catch that?

The Palestinian Authority is placing a fuel embargo on Gaza by refusing to pay for industrial fuel for Gaza, the Energy Authority in Hamas-run Gaza has charged.

"In light of the sharp reduction in fuel deliveries, the power plant may have to shut down, leaving most of Gaza black," according to an energy authority statement quoted by the Bethlehem-based Ma'an news agency.

Birds of a feather...

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- President Barack Obama's chief of staff, then a congressman in Illinois, apparently attempted to trade favors with embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich while he was in office, according to newly disclosed e-mails obtained by The Associated Press.

Obama's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, agreed to sign a letter to the Chicago Tribune supporting Blagojevich in the face of a scathing editorial by the newspaper that ridiculed the governor for self-promotion. Within hours, Emanuel's own staff asked for a favor of its own: The release of a delayed $2 million grant to a school in his district.

Poll: Most Say Obama Lacks Clear Plans on the Oil Spill, Energy or Jobs

Even CBS can't hide the truth forever.

Most Americans do not believe President Obama has a clear plan to deal with the oil spill in the Gulf, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll.

Just 32 percent say Mr. Obama has a clear plan to deal with the oil leak, while 59 percent (including 64 percent of Gulf coast residents) say he does not.

The numbers are not much better among those who watched the president's Oval Office speech on the spill last week, with 35 percent of that group saying he has a clear plan and 56 percent saying he does not.

BP's Army of Democratic Lobbyists

Shocker

BP, which has garnered the bulk of public attention and contempt for the spill, has assembled a formidable team of Democrats for its Washington lobbying, legal and public-relations offensive. There is Tony Podesta, who heads one of the District's leading lobbying firms; legal adviser Jamie Gorelick, a top Justice Department official in the Clinton administration now at the law firm WilmerHale; Hilary Rosen, a former recording-industry lobbyist who heads the Washington office of the Brunswick Group, a public-relations consultancy; and Michael S. Berman of the Duberstein Group, who was a longtime aide to former vice president Walter F. Mondale before becoming a lobbyist.

Why Won't Obama Waive the Jones Act?

Because he's owned by unions.

But unlike his predecessor, President Obama has declined to suspend the law, even temporarily.
Obama's decision has turned into a public relations headache for an administration already reeling from its oversight of the oil spill. European allies, longtime opponents of the Jones Act, have asserted they were turned away when making offers of assistance. The State Department acknowledges it has had 21 aid offers from 17 countries.

White House dismisses critics, defends Obama's golf outings during Gulf crisis

But Obama's on it.

The White House is dismissing criticism that President Barack Obama shouldn’t play golf during the Gulf oil spill.

White House spokesman Bill Burton on Monday said the president deserves some time to relax, and he doesn’t “think that there’s a person in this country that doesn’t think that their president ought to have a little time to clear his mind.”

Shahzad: Would Plead Guilty '100 Times More'

Is U.S. Now On Slippery Slope To Tyranny?

Thanks to Obama, it is.

Just where in the Constitution of the United States does it say that a president has the authority to extract vast sums of money from a private enterprise and distribute it as he sees fit to whomever he deems worthy of compensation? Nowhere.

And yet that is precisely what is happening with a $20 billion fund to be provided by BP to compensate people harmed by their oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Troop pullout in Afghanistan set for next summer

Have all the surge troops even arrived yet?

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Obama administration reaffirmed Sunday that it will begin pulling U.S. troops out of Afghanistan next summer, despite reservations among top generals that absolute deadlines are a mistake.

President Barack Obama's chief of staff said an announced plan to begin bringing forces home in July 2011 still holds.

The IPCC consensus on climate change was phoney, says IPCC insider

And yet, the warmist still cling to their religion.

The UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change misled the press and public into believing that thousands of scientists backed its claims on manmade global warming, according to Mike Hulme, a prominent climate scientist and IPCC insider. The actual number of scientists who backed that claim was “only a few dozen experts,” he states in a paper for Progress in Physical Geography, co-authored with student Martin Mahony.

The rats are leaving the sinking ship.

Washington insiders say he will quit within six to eight months in frustration at their unwillingness to "bang heads together" to get policy pushed through.

The Useful Idiots Begin to Blubber about Obama

Too late now.

Listen up, you punked, chumped boobs: We looked at Obama not through your rose colored hallucinations, but through the cold, clear spectacles of reality. None of what he’s done since has surprised us one bit. In fact, many of us, myself included, predicted it even before his coronation by people like you. Yes, it’s nice that after a year and a half of horrible examples, the truth about him is finally beginning to penetrate your skulls. But why, for the love of god, couldn’t you see it at the beginning, when it was no less obvious, but your understanding of it might have done some good?

We must never let them forget that all the damage Obama has done and will do, is all their fault.

Can't get more out of touch than that.

President Barack Obama hit the golf course Saturday with Vice President Joe Biden.

Obama left the course shortly before 6 p.m.

Obama's Visit Forces Hundreds Into Unpaid Leave

Mr Cameron must stop appeasing a shameless Obama

Aw, where's the love gone?

Having just returned from a trip to the U.S., I have seen first hand how successful President Obama has been in persuading his country that Britain - and Britain alone - is to blame for the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

In an act of pure spite and calculated political expediency, he has vilified BP to boost his own waning popularity.

We all know how much Hollywood loves a British villain, but there's something deeply offensive about the way Obama has turned BP's chief executive, Tony Hayward, into a hate figure.

World Sees Obama as Incompetent and Amateur

That's because he is.

Yet, the Iraq war lingers; Afghanistan continues to be immersed in an endless cycle of tribalism, corruption, and Islamist resurgence; Guantánamo remains open; Iran sees how North Korea toys with Obama
and continues its programs to develop nuclear weapons and missiles; Cuba spurns America's offers of a greater opening; and the Palestinians and Israelis find that it is U.S. policy positions that defer serious negotiations, the direct opposite of what the Obama administration hoped for.

The reviews of Obama's performance have been disappointing. He has seemed uncomfortable in the role of leading other nations, and often seems to suggest there is nothing special about America's role in the world. The global community was puzzled over the pictures of Obama bowing to some of the world's leaders and surprised by his gratuitous criticisms of and apologies for America's foreign policy under the previous administration of George W. Bush. One Middle East authority, Fouad Ajami, pointed out that Obama seems unaware that it is bad form and even a great moral lapse to speak ill of one's own tribe while in the lands of others.

BP Oil Spill: Against Gov. Bobby Jindal's Wishes, Crude-Sucking Barges Stopped by Coast Guard

Way to go Obama.

Eight days ago, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal ordered barges to begin vacuuming crude oil out of his state's oil-soaked waters. Today, against the governor's wishes, those barges sat idle, even as more oil flowed toward the Louisiana shore.

"It's the most frustrating thing," the Republican governor said today in Buras, La. "Literally, yesterday morning we found out that they were halting all of these barges."

Watch "World News" for David Muir's report from Louisiana tonight.

Sixteen barges sat stationary today, although they were sucking up thousands of gallons of BP's oil as recently as Tuesday. Workers in hazmat suits and gas masks pumped the oil out of the Louisiana waters and into steel tanks. It was a homegrown idea that seemed to be effective at collecting the thick gunk.

Obama Gives Part of Arizona to Mexicans

Poll: Obama Overtakes Carter As The Worst President Of The U.S. In the Last 100 Years

And it's going to get worse, much worse.

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 17, 2010 -- President Obama is now deemed as the worst President of the United States in the last 100 years by 34% of polled registered voters in the U.S. This eclipses President Carter who was cited by 31% of voters. This in the latest poll just out by Abrams, Herzog & Filippi For U.S.E. News released today "Obama and the Democrats are now seen as doing all they can to collapse the nation financially by a full 64% of registered Republicans. It was only a matter of weeks or months before Obama overtook Carter as the worst President in the eyes of American voters" said Mike Lodee of U.S.E. News.

US halts funding for Egypt-Gaza border wall

Egypt was building a wall to blockade Gaza? Who knew?

The Hamas-affiliated Palestinian Media Center quoted Israeli National Radio as reporting that the US had halted funding for the wall currently being built along Egypt's 14-kilometer border with the Gaza Strip and recalled American engineers working on the project.

According to the center, the US canceled US$500 million that had been initially allocated for the wall, deciding instead to grant the US-backed Palestinian Fatah movement US$400 million following a recent visit to the US by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

BP oil spill: British pensioners will pick up the bill for BP compensation fund

And that fund money will be paid to Obama's union thugs.

The crisis engulfing BP plumbed new depths last night as President Obama bullied the company into depositing £13.5billion into a fund to settle compensation claims for the calamitous Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

After a face-to-face showdown with the President at the White House, BP chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg revealed the payment meant the oil giant would be forced to suspend dividends to its shareholders until at least next year.

The news sent BP shares plunging to a 14-year low of £3.37, and is a major blow for Britain's pension funds, which rely on BP's dividend income to provide £1 in every £6 they receive each year.

Cuba braces to contend with BP oil spill | World news

BP's bill is going to get a lot bigger.

Cuba is steadying itself for an ecological and tourism crisis as the Deepwater Horizon oil spill appears to be heading towards its pristine northern coast.

Authorities are preparing coastal communities to respond to the first sign of black slicks and have brought in Venezuelan experts to advise on damage limitation.

Patches of oil were reportedly spotted 100 miles north-west of the island, prompting concern that gulf currents will add Cuba to the list of casualties from the April 20 Deepwater Horizon rig explosion.

Politics of Deceit

Obama taps SecNav for Gulf recovery plan

It took Obama two months to come up with this?

No mosque at Ground Zero

British media falls out of love with Obama

The media on both sides of the Atlantic are realizing they've been had.

Fools! If they had done their job during the campaign, Obama wouldn't even be president.

The BBC reports of Barack Obama’s speech last night are about as derisive as it would be possible to be about someone you were describing only a few months ago as the incarnation of Hope and Optimism. Yes indeed, the romance is over. The British media have decided that it was all a cruel deception: Obama is just one more ranting populist president who will do anything to divert attention from his own failure to get a grip. And this is not just about BP and the fate of all those pension funds.

These errors are not random. They amount to a comprehensive strategy of Europeanisation: Euro-carbon taxes, Euro-disarmament, Euro-healthcare, Euro-welfare, Euro-spending levels, Euro-tax levels and, inevitably, Euro-unemployment levels. Any American reader who wants to know where Obamification will lead should spend a week with me in the European Parliament. I’m working in your future and, believe me, you won’t like it.

China’s Military Threatens America: ‘We Will Hurt You’

Here that Obama?

“Every nation has a right to defend itself and to spend as it sees fit for that purpose, but a gap as wide as what seems to be forming between China’s stated intent and its military programs leaves me more than curious about the end result,” said Admiral Mike Mullen this Wednesday. “Indeed, I have moved from being curious to being genuinely concerned.”

It’s about time the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in public, expressed disquiet about the Chinese military buildup. For decades, American flag officers, many of them from the Navy, have remained optimistic about America’s military relations with China. And after every Chinese hostile act — even those constituting direct attacks on the United States, such as the March 2009 attempt to interfere with the Impeccable in the South China Sea — American admirals have either remained silent or said they were “perplexed” or “befuddled” by Beijing’s intentions.

Obama cover-up Is Worse Than The Slick

Oilgate?

The Times tells us that British Petroleum and the Obama Administration are limiting media access to the Gulf oil spill. Hard to believe Team Obama is that dumb - do they really want the media to segue from "Obama Inept" to "Obama Dishonest"?

Here is an example of the Feds in action:

Journalists struggling to document the impact of the oil rig explosion have repeatedly found themselves turned away from public areas affected by the spill, and not only by BP and its contractors, but by local law enforcement, the Coast Guard and government officials.

It’s official — the U. of Chicago Press is SOLD OUT of copies of Hayek’s The Road to Serfdom | Taking Hayek Seriously

This is great news. Why? Because it shows not only is America paying attention to what's going on in this country, but people are taking action. And education is the first step.

UPDATE — Evidently Amazon got a rush shipment of the new Road to Serfdom press run — the book is back in stock at Amazon.

I just got off the phone with Stephanie Hlywak of the U. of Chicago Press and it’s official — the U. of Chicago Press is SOLD OUT of copies of Friedrich Hayek’s classic The Road to Serfdom after selling over 13,000 copies in less than 24 hours, after the broadcast of Glenn Beck’s show on Hayek and his timeless book.

I ordered my copy a few days ago.

So much for being in charge and focused since day one.

Three days after the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico, the Dutch government offered to help.

It was willing to provide ships outfitted with oil-skimming booms, and it proposed a plan for building sand barriers to protect sensitive marshlands.

The response from the Obama administration and BP, which are coordinating the cleanup: “The embassy got a nice letter from the administration that said, ‘Thanks, but no thanks,'” said Geert Visser, consul general for the Netherlands in Houston.

Obama - Clueless About Gaza

And just about everything else.

Obama, like many liberals, believes against all evidence that the reason for Islamic violence against Israel is that the Palestinians don't have a state. Hall and Oates cancel concert plans in response to Arizona immigration law

Time to boycott these assholes. Remember what happended the Dixie Chicks boys?

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced that Daryl Hall and John Oates have canceled their post-game concert at Chase Field that had been scheduled to follow a game against the Dodgers on July 2.

Hall and Oates issued the following statement:

"In addition to our personal convictions, we are standing in solidarity with the music community in our boycott of performing in Arizona at this time. We would like to emphasize that this has nothing to do with the management of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who have been professional and cooperative throughout our dealings with them. This is our response to a very specific action of the state."

Hey, Hall and Oates, you going to boycott Mexico for their outrageous immigration laws as well?

Reuters Admits Cropping Photos of Gaza terror ship

What do you expect from a UK news organization?

The British-based Reuters news agency has been stung for the second time by charges that it edited politically sensitive photos in a way that casts Israel in a bad light. But this time Reuters claims it wasn’t at fault.

The news agency reacted to questions raised by an American blogger who showed that Reuters' photo service edited out knives and blood traces from pictures taken aboard the activist ship Mavi Marmara during a clash with Israeli commandos last week. Nine people were killed and scores were injured in the clash.

Rangel on WH faith in BP: They don't have the slightest clue

Obama's lost Rangel?

I don’t think the administration has the slightest clue. We’re bringing in experts now, in and outside of government, to see whether or not BP will do more. We should have had the answers to that long before we even drilled.

Liberals mad because Obama is not ruining America fast enough

Or something like that.

Signs of the disparity were abundant at the three-day "America's Future Now!" conference, attended by more than 1,000 liberals at a Washington hotel where an exhibition hall housed just a handful of group booths and displays.

A similar conference of conservatives in Washington earlier this year drew 10,000 participants and packed a hotel ballroom with dozens of booths manned by powerful conservative lobbies like the National Rifle Association.

Obama fails - Democrats call for own teaparty

My, my, my, seems that hope and change thing didn't work out.

Progressive movement activists gathered in Washington on Monday declared themselves dismayed, even angry, at President Obama and Democrats in Congress for being too timid and compromising in pursuing change on issues from health care to the environment to the economy.

The speakers at the America’s Future Now conference that began Monday called for a political uprising independent of the Democratic Party.

“This has been the greatest flurry of reform in over 50 years, and yet through it we have grown more dissatisfied — and for good reason,” said Robert L. Borosage, co-director of the Campaign for America’s Future, said in a speech opening the conference. “The White House has been an uncertain trumpet.”

Arianna Huffington, co-founder of the liberal news Web site the Huffington Post, referred to Obama’s 2008 campaign message by saying: “It’s clear that ‘hope’ is not enough. What we need is Hope 2.0, and that is taking matters into our own hands.”

"Angry", "Uprising", "taking matters into our own hands" - Sounds like a bunch of racists to me.

Poll: BP Oil Spill Rated Worse Than Hurricane Katrina

Notice how ABC doesn't mention Obama once in their two page report?

By more than a 2-to-1 margin, Americans support the pursuit of criminal charges in the nation's worst oil spill , with increasing numbers calling it a major environmental disaster. Eight in 10 criticize the way BP's handled it – and more people give the federal government's response a negative rating than did the response to Hurricane Katrina.

Al Qaeda In Iraq “Devastated”

I'm sure they are still dangerous but this is encouraging.

Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he found it particularly encouraging that gains against al-Qaida have been made in operations carried out jointly by U.S. and Iraqi military forces. That makes it more likely, Mullen said, that after U.S. troops leave in 2011 the Iraqi government will be able to handle what remains of al-Qaida's capability to launch terror strikes.

Mullen's remarks echoed an assessment made Friday by Gen. Ray Odierno, the top American commander in Iraq. Odierno told reporters that over the last three months, "we've either picked up or killed 34 out of the top 42 al-Qaida in Iraq leaders." He said the group is trying to reorganize but has "lost connection" with the top-rung al-Qaida leaders who are hiding in western Pakistan.

Navy ray gun shoots down robotic targets

Faster please.

"The success of this effort validates the military utility of DE&EWS (Directed Energy and Electric Weapon Systems) in a maritime environment," said program manager Capt. David Kiel. "Further development and integration of increasingly more powerful lasers into Surface Navy LaWS will increase both the engagement range and target sets that can be successfully engaged and destroyed."

The US Navy is interested in laser weapons because of their speed-of-light engagement time, and the cost savings realized by minimizing the use of missiles.

Laser weapons are also becoming a reality in the air. In testing earlier this year, a modified Boeing 747 equipped with an airborne laser (ABL) shot down a ballistic missile off the central California coast.

Helen Thomas high school speech canceled over flap

Good.

BETHESDA, Md. - A high school graduation speech by veteran White House reporter Helen Thomas has been canceled because of controversial remarks she made about Israel, the school's principal said in an e-mail Sunday.

Thomas had been scheduled to speak at the June 14 graduation of Walt Whitman High School, but Principal Alan Goodwin wrote in the e-mail to students and parents that she was being replaced. The school in the Washington suburb of Bethesda, Md., hasn't picked a new speaker.

"Graduation celebrations are not the venue for divisiveness," Goodwin wrote.

Or bigots.

New York Times - Doubts about Obama's leadership

From the New York Times?!

Not going to happen. Obama will never unleash the anger of the antagonists in “Do the Right Thing” or match James Carville’s rebooted “ragin’ Cajun” shtick. That’s not who Obama is. If he tried to go off, he’d look ridiculous. But the debate over how to raise the president’s emotional thermostat is not an entirely innocuous distraction. It allows Obama to duck the more serious doubts about his leadership that have resurfaced along with BP’s oil.

Unlike his unflappable temperament, his lingering failings should and could be corrected. And they must be if his presidency is not just to rise above the 24/7 Spill-cam but to credibly seize the narrative that Americans have craved ever since he was elected during the most punishing economic downturn of our lifetime. We still want to believe that Obama is on our side, willing to fight those bad corporate actors who cut corners and gambled recklessly while regulators slept, Congress raked in contributions, and we got stuck with the wreckage and the bills. But his leadership style keeps sowing confusion about his loyalties, puncturing holes in the powerful tale he could tell.

All of which was known long before he was elected but the left wing meida ignored Obama's failings.

Britons link Islam with extremism, says survey

Kind of hard to hide reality.

Most people in the UK associate Islam with extremism and the repression of women, a survey has suggested.

The online YouGov poll was conducted for moderate Muslim organization the Exploring Islam Foundation.

Some 58% of those surveyed said they linked Islam with extremism.

Asked if Muslims had a positive impact on British society, four out of 10 disagreed with the statement while seven out of 10 said the religion encouraged the repression of women.

Can you imagine how much higher that figure would be if the left wing media, like the BBC and the Guardian, actually did their jobs and told the truth?

More people cut Helen Thomas loose

She needs to be fired.

It must be assumed that anyone who keeps her in employment, must agree with her anti Semitic remarks.

To Avoid Voter Rage, Democrats Skip Town Halls

Meet with the little people? Bah, let them eat cake.

The sentiment that fueled the rage during those Congressional forums is still alive in the electorate. But the opportunities for voters to openly express their displeasure, or angrily vent as video cameras roll, have been harder to come by in this election year.

If the time-honored tradition of the political meeting is not quite dead, it seems to be teetering closer to extinction. Of the 255 Democrats who make up the majority in the House, only a handful held town-hall-style forums as legislators spent last week at home in their districts.

It was no scheduling accident.

Britain to fund terrorists in Gaza

Sigh, America does it too.

LONDON (AFP) – Britain announced Sunday it was giving £19 million for refugees in Gaza and repeated calls for Israel to lift its blockade of the territory.

Why no calls for Egypt to lift its blockade as well? Because this isn't about Gaza and the Palestinians. This is about hating Israel.

Israel and Egypt both set up their blockades of Gaza on the same day and the same reason - Hamas. If Hamas leaves and the Palestinians quit attacking Israel and Egypt, the blockades would come down.

Civil servants feared inquiry into 7/7 bombings would focus negatively on Muslims

Muslims feelings were more important than our security.

In the paper, Sir John Gieve, the Home Office permanent secretary, said that upsetting Muslims would be a "potential cost" of ministers agreeing to demands for a full inquiry.

After receiving Sir John's paper, Mr Clarke decided not to order a public inquiry – a decision which infuriated many survivors and relatives of those killed.

One survivor said last night that she was "outraged" by the revelation.

Inquest hearings into the 7/7 deaths are expected to start this autumn.

As an alternative to a public inquiry the Home Office published, a year after the bombings, a "narrative" drafted by its own officials which merely set out the events leading up to the bombings, with little analysis of underlying causes.

If you don't know the underlying causes, how can you stop it from happening again?

Obama has made it clear, it's time to blame the Jews

I keep asking the question, how much more damage will Obama do to the world before his term is over.

Yes, I know people have said things even more bigoted and stupid than dotty old Helen Thomas did the other day (not that she was any brighter before she got dotty), but I can’t help but thinking Ms. Helen felt freer to express her rancid anti-Semitism because of the times in which we live. I mean — to be blunt – the era of Barack Obama.

Consciously or not, our President — with his increased, and pompously self-righteous, pressure on Israel — has sent a message to the world. It’s time to blame the Jews. And the world, in economic extremis, is all too eager to find someone to blame.

Obama knew from the beginning that oil leak would likely last months

So he went golfing.

The real disgrace here is why, if he really did know right away that this was the oil equivalent of an asteroid strike, he didn’t scramble some sort of all-hands-on-deck emergency operation to protect the coastline. Remember, Jindal reportedly requested five million feet of hard boom back on May 2, long after Obama (according to Wolffe) knew about the magnitude of the disaster. By May 24, not even 800,000 feet had arrived. What happened?

Hearst won't say whether Helen Thomas will keep job

Thomas remarks reveal some interesting things.

Hearst Newspapers is refusing to say whether it will stand by White House veteran reporter Helen Thomas in the wake of conservative outrage over her remarks about Jews leaving Palestine and going back to Europe.

Conservative Web sites have been banging away at Thomas ever since video surfaced of her urging Jews to "get the hell out of Palestine" and go back to Germany and Poland. Beyond these comments,

So, only conservatives are outraged by her racists comments? Interesting.

Obama's Gulf Oil Spill

Video: How Obama showed his “singular” focus on the Gulf spill

And yet the left wing media give Obama a pass.

Just to remind people of the unofficial count:

* Two days of media events (White House Correspondents Dinner and a tête a tête with Bono)
* Three days of fundraising
* Four commemorations (graduations, Cinco de Mayo, etc)
* Six days of vacation
* Six days of campaigning
* Six sports events
* Seven days of golf

In comparison, how many days did Obama spend at the Gulf? Three, during this span of time, and he’s back again today.

Obama is finished

Ed Driscoll kindly linked to my post and expanded on it.

Here are two things that caught my eye in Ed's post, that to me, signal the end for Obama.

And with all that going on, Jennifer Rubin asks the 6.4 Trillion Dollar Question: “When Do They Tune Out?”

There is a point in a presidency when the public simply has had enough and tunes out, unwilling to listen even when the president says sensible things or has a reasonable point to make in his own defense. For George W. Bush, it was Katrina. The question for Obama is how close to that point is he now, and will the next bad news week push him over the edge.

Toby Harnden writes:

Central to Obama’s appeal was his promise to be truly different. His failure to achieve that is now at the core of the deep disappointment Americans feel about him. At the press conference — the first full-scale affair he had deigned to give for 309 days — he appeared uncomfortable and petulant. … Obama engaged in the obligatory populist bashing of Big Oil and, of course, demonstrated the Obama administration’s version of Tourette’s Syndrome, blaming the previous administration for the situation when, by my reckoning, it’s a full 16 months since Bush left office.

Obama has no where to run now - campaigning is over - time to lead - but Obama can't. No one should be surprised by this. Nowhere in Obama's background is there the slightest hint that Obama could lead anything. He was simply elected on hope and change. Hope didn't work and now we see there is no change.

From the failed lack of transparency promises to the final nail in the coffin, Obama's backroom deals to deny citizens the candidates of their choice. The American people are the most tolerant and forgiving people on the planet, but, they won't suffer a con job like Obama.

Weaponry Overview and Footage of Mavi Marmara Passengers Preparing Weaponry

Obama can campaign but he can't lead

Gee, who could have seen that coming?

Lawmakers say the White House seems capable of handling only one issue at a time — a stunning contrast to the candidate whose campaign promised that he could "walk and chew gum" at the same time in 2008.

Now this senior House Democrat said he's worried that the White House isn't able to handle multiple major challenges.

"They're paralyzed," he said.

That's what you get with an organizer in chief instead of a commander in chief.

"This just has to give him a second wind. It gets volunteers going. I don't know who told the White House they should stick their nose into Colorado politics. What a dumb thing to do,” Knaus said. “The activists don't want to be told what to do. They don't want it shoved down their throats or they'll do the opposite."

Welcome to the club, welcome to the club.

Was Gaza in urgent need of food aid in the first place?

No.

One piece of data was a documentary I saw a few months ago, shot by a pro-Hamas activist and screened during Columbia University’s Apartheid Week festivities. Peculiarly, though the travelogue (filmed very recently) was supposed to arouse Nuremberg rally-like rage about occupation and so on, the activist/producer had allowed abundant footage of street markets brimming with produce and shops full of canned goods, cigarettes, and sweets. At one point the activist/film producer asked a Gazan whether he had enough food. He answered with something to the effect of “We have food, but we object to the closures on political grounds.” The activist’s cameras then took us over to the Gaza/Egypt border where, under full view of apathetic uniformed authorities, huge, complicated tunnels were being built, repaired, and used to bring in more goods.

Obama's FTC plan to reinvent America's news media

The left wing media annoited Obama and now, it's payback time.

What's widely-known is that Americans are not buying newspapers anymore in droves.

What hasn't been widely-known, until now, is that a year ago the new Democrat administration of Barack Obama launched a major internal study intended to design a major government rescue plan for the nation's financially-troubled information media, primarily newspapers.

That strident sound you hear are the alarms going off in minds and offices across the country: Government helping the press? Which press? How help? In return for what?

Well, two years ago who'd have thought the feds would own General Motors with major holdings in a bunch of banks and financial institutions, reshaped the healthcare industry, spent $787 billion on who-knows-what to create some jobs, have rewritten a package of new financial regulations to corral Wall Street and still not be securing the U.S.-Mexico border?

PolitiZoid - Money for Nothing video

Obama and the Democrats propose law banning free speech

I keep saying it, wake up America, wake up.

The anxiety and uncertainty created by the new rules would be compounded by the fact that they would take effect 30 days after the law is enacted, before the FEC would have time to issue regulations clarifying them. Opposing an amendment that would have postponed the effective date until January 1, Rep. Michael Capuano (D-Mass.) said he wants people to worry about a fine or prison sentence when they dare to speak ill of him.

"I hope it chills out all—not one side, all sides!" said Capuano. "I have no problem whatsoever keeping everybody out. If I could keep all outside entities out, I would."

Similarly, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), upon unveiling the bill, said "the deterrent effect should not be underestimated." For those who view nonpoliticians as meddlesome "outside entities" and criticism of incumbents as a crime to be deterred, the chilling effect of campaign finance laws is a feature, not a bug.

Day by day Obama and the Democrats are looking like Nazis.

Maureen Dowd - Obama losing control and it's Bush's fault

With Obama failing, the left wing media have to blame someone. It just can't be possible for "The One" to be a failure.

In “Dreams From My Father,” Obama showed passion, lyricism, empathy and an exquisite understanding of character and psychological context — all the qualities that he has stubbornly resisted showing as president. It was a book that promised a president who could see into the hearts of other people. But there’s so much you don’t learn about candidates in campaigns, even when they seem completely exposed.

This president has made it clear that he’s not comfortable outside whatever domain he’s defined. But unless he wants his story to be marred by a pattern of passivity, detachment, acquiescence and compromise, he’d better seize control of the story line of his White House years. Woe-is-me is not an attractive narrative.

Face it Maureen, you've been had. The book version of Obama was fiction. What you're seeing now is the real Obama - out of touch and out of control.

As for "completely exposed", had you done your job during the campaign and really exposed Obama, he wouldn't be president today.

Richard Cohen Bumps Into Reality

Now, if more liberals would wake up and smell the coffee.

This is a good news, bad news column. The good news is that crime is again down across the nation -- in big cities, small cities, flourishing cities and cities that are not for the timid. Surprisingly, this has happened in the teeth of the Great Recession, meaning that those disposed to attribute criminality to poverty -- my view at one time -- have some strenuous rethinking to do. It could be, as conservatives have insisted all along, that crime is committed by criminals. For liberals, this is bad news indeed.

Only a liberal would say that reality if bad news. I've got more bad news for liberals, reality exists, get used to it.

Colorado Dem: Actually, the White House offered me three jobs to quit the primary

This is the "change" Obama suckers voted for.

Black lawmakers want to limit new ethics office

Rangel must really be in trouble.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Stung by a series of inquiries, nearly half the members of the Congressional Black Caucus want to scale back the aggressive ethics procedures that Democrats trumpeted after gaining control of Congress.

Rep. Marcia Fudge, D-Ohio, and 19 fellow black lawmakers in the all-Democratic caucus quietly introduced a resolution last week that would restrict the powers of the new independent Office of Congressional Ethics. The office, formed by Congress in 2008, is run by a panel of private citizens.

Black caucus Chairwoman Barbara Lee, D-Calif., is among the sponsors, but the full 42-member caucus did not endorse the measure. Lee declined comment through a spokesman.

Is there a Congressional White Caucus? Obama was supposed to be our first post racial politician, so isn't it time for the Congressional Black Caucus to disband?

Obama: We got the president we elected

This is rich on so many levels.

All of which leads to President Obama. He was elected because he is cool, calm and analytical. That's what we wanted to see after George W. Bush, so we made him president. But now the disaster in the Gulf has made many of us want to see someone else -- with plenty of anger, emotion and bravado. We want him to yell at BP. We want him to loudly tell us he's whipping the cleanup effort into shape.

To which Bush replied, "Miss me yet?"

So we want him to morph into something he isn't -- which is exactly what we hate about our politicians. We want him to be another Barack Obama, an actor. Maybe we want him to be George Bush with the bullhorn after 9/11. Only he isn't.

Damn! That was fast!

Now, before this next bit, put down your coffee and clear your throat because this next bit is funny as hell.

There is one president, of course, who never had to be prodded into the empathy zone: Bill Clinton. He felt our pain all the time. Last week, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell put it this way: "If Bill Clinton was president, he'd have been in a wetsuit, trying to get down to see the spill." He's right, of course, but think back for a moment: That's exactly what Americans came to distrust about Clinton. By emoting too much, they never knew what to believe. What was real and what wasn't?

You never had to prod Clinton because he was too busy "prodding" Monica with cigars! Clinton felt our pain only when he wasn't feeling Monica's breasts.

Emoting too much? That's why America didn't trust Clinton? Whitewater, filegate, travelgate, FBIgate, IRSgate, Monica and on and on and on...that's why America didn't trust Clinton.

The rest is just drivel from her.

Pariah Obama Avoided Like the Plague in Pittsburgh

Poor Obama, no one likes him anymore.

Stop the hypocrisy about Israel

Glad to see this on CNN.

Jon Stewart Goes After Obama for Lazy Response to BP Oil Spill

Seems Obama is letting everyone down.

Tonight, The Daily Show returned from a two-week hiatus. Naturally, Jon Stewart opened with a focus on the disastrous BP oil spill. Unexpectedly, however, Stewart spent several minutes criticizing President Obama for his apparent unfocused and lazy response. Video inside.

By cutting together footage of Obama promising not to "rest" until the leak was plugged with that of him attending various sports and heritage-related press events, Stewart built a case against the President's seriousness with regard to a focus on doing everything necessary to make sure BP stops the flow. "Get back to the motherfucking spill," Stewart screamed at one point. Here's the segment.

Britain would vote to leave the EU tomorrow

That's if they could just get a vote.

According to a new opinion poll by Angus Reid, 51 per cent of us believe that EU membership is, on balance, bad for Britain, while only 31 per cent think it beneficial. In a referendum, we would vote by 42 to 35 per cent to withdraw. While Conservative supporters are slightly more Euro-sceptic than Labour or Lib Dem supporters, all three parties are wildly out of line with their electorates.

Clarke and Dawes ask the million dollar questions ABC News Australian ...

This would be funny if it wasn't so true.

When the Left Talks Religious

If the right did this...

According to this report, “House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) says she believes she must pursue public policies ‘in keeping with the values’ of Jesus Christ, ‘The Word made Flesh.’” Whoa, baby. We can’t say that — no one right of center can say that; but they can. A curious fact about a strange place, America.

The problem for the left is, they are stuck on Alinsky, er, stupid. The left accuse their opponents of doing exactly what they are doing in an effort to hide their actions. The left wing media plays along and, viola, the left gets away with their hypocrisy.

Iran Bars Music in Private Schools, May Impose University Code

Let's see what the left wing musicians have to say about this.

June 1 (Bloomberg) -- Iran has barred private schools from teaching music, saying it clashes with the establishment’s Islamic values, following a push to enforce moral standards that may lead to a national dress code for university students.

“The use of musical instruments is against the principles of our value system,” Ali Bagherzadeh, head of the private- schools office in the Education Ministry, said in a phone interview from Tehran today. Iran’s 16,000 private schools have 1.1 million students, the Islamic Republic News Agency said.

Tell me again about how great and enlightened Islam is. The left don't care about gays under Islam and I'm guessing they won't care about musicians either.

The Grand Jihad and the 'Humanitarian' Flotilla

Let's not forget the left wing media's role in all this.

It's worth remembering why the aid was being transported by sea in the first place. A convoy led by then-British MP George Galloway ended in violence at the Egyptian-Gaza border in early January after authorities delayed their entry into Gaza.

An Egyptian police officer was shot and killed by Hamas gunmen. Egypt deported Galloway, made it clear he was unwelcome there again, and told the convoy it could no longer enter through its crossing. Galloway's partner in that convoy was the Turkish-based International Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), which helped lead the flotilla.

IHH was a key player in the Free Gaza Movement flotilla. Israeli officials say IHH is tied to Hamas, and even to al Qaeda, and it was banned in Israel in 2008 for being "part of Hamas's fundraising network." Court papers in the U.S. prosecution of Abdurahman Alamoudi also tie it to terrorist activity, citing French intelligence expert Jean Louis-Bruguiere's assessment that IHH played "[a]n important role" in the Millennium bomb plot.

What the left and their megaphone, the left wing media, haven't thought through is, what happens if they win?

Krauthammer's Take

from last night.

The fundamental deception here is the use of the word "humanitarian." . . . Humanitarians don't wield iron clubs, and [they] would have killed the Israelis had the Israelis not drawn their pistols in self-defense.

But there‘s a larger issue here. What exactly is the humanitarian crisis that the flotilla was actually addressing? There is none. There’s no one starving in Gaza. The Gazans have been supplied with food and social services, education, by the U.N., by UNWRA, for 60 years, in part with American tax money.

Second, when there are humanitarian needs, the Israelis allow — every day — food and medicine overland into Gaza. The reason that it did not want to allow this flotilla is because, as the spokesman for the flotilla said herself, this was not about humanitarian relief. It was about breaking the blockade.

And the reason the Israelis have a blockade is because they only want to allow humanitarian supplies and not weaponry. Look, the proof of that is the fact that if you look at a map of Gaza, you'll see that Israelis only control three sides of this rectangle. There’s a fourth side on the Egyptian side. So it is an Egyptian-Israeli blockade.

The Turkish Government as Global Arbiter of Ethnic Violence

After they've come for the Jews and they come for you, who's going to help you? Wake up people, wake up.

What explains this preexisting hatred, which ensures denunciation of Israel in the most rabid — or, to use the politically correct parlance, “disproportionate” — terms? It is not about “occupied land,” given the millions of square miles worldwide that are presently occupied, from Georgia to Cyprus to Tibet. It is not a divided capital — Nicosia is walled off. It is not an overreaction in the use of force per se — the Russians flattened Grozny and killed tens of thousands while the world snoozed. And it cannot be the scale of violence, given what we see hourly in Pakistan, Darfur, and the Congo. And, given the Armenian, Greek, and Kurdish histories (and reactions to them), the currently outraged Turkish government is surely not a credible referent on the topic of disproportionate violence.

Perhaps the outrage reflects simple realpolitik — 350 million Arab Muslims versus 7 million Israelis. Perhaps it is oil: half the world’s reserves versus Israel’s nada. Perhaps it is the fear of terror: Draw a cartoon or write a novel offending Islam, and you must go into hiding; defame Jews and earn accolades. Perhaps it is anti-Semitism, which is as fashionable on the academic Left as it used to be among the neanderthal Right.

Obama continues to stonewall on Sestak job offer

The more Obama stonewalls the more it looks like he has something to hide.

Gibbs said the advisory post at issue “was an unpaid position and didn’t constitute a lot of what you hear,” but he didn’t say precisely what the position offered was.

Pressed on how a widely discussed scenario — where Sestak serving on the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board could have been possible while Sestak continued to serve in the House, which is forbidden by the board’s rules — Gibbs said simply, “I’d refer you to the memo.”

If Obama has nothing to hide, why the secrecy over what the job was? Probably because there was no such job offer.

Republicans Jump Out To Historic Lead In Gallup Generic Ballot

Is America waking up to the danger to our country the Democrats pose?

Gallup's generic polling shows the number of voters saying that they would vote for Republicans rising three points from last week, while the number saying they will vote for Democrats dropped four points. The 49%-43% lead for the Republicans is the largest that the pollster has ever recorded for the party. Moreover, Democratic enthusiasm for voting this fall fell a point, while enthusiasm among Republicans stayed about fifteen points higher. This indicates an even wider lead for Republicans once Gallup imposes a likely voter screen this fall.

Groups want FCC to police hate speech on talk radio, cable news networks

No free speech for you.

The organizations, which include Free Press, the Center for Media Justice, the Benton Foundation and Media Alliance, also argue that the anonymity of the Web gives ammunition to those that would spread hate.

The groups did not mention any specific programming on the right or the left in their letter, which supports a petition filed by the National Hispanic Media Coalition last year requesting a probe of the relationship between hate speech and hate crimes.

You know, in the old days I'd be all over this, looking up who these groups are and who's behind them. There's no point anymore as they always lead back to far left liberals and the Democrats. Oops! I repeat myself.

Why do these groups want to regulate the Internet?

The groups argue the Internet has made it harder for the public to separate the facts from bigotry masquerading as news.

Because you're too stupid. Gee, isn't that just what Obama said the other day?

This isn't about what is hate speech and what is not. No, this is far, far more important. This is about who gets to decide what the facts are. And make no mistake, the left want it to be them. Wake up America.

Ray Stevens - Come to the USA

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos: A Profile in Media Courage

Is Brietbart getting too big for the media to ignore.

Today James O’Keefe and I had the privilege to go on ABC News’ Good Morning America to launch O’Keefe’s new set of undercover videos – the Census. While most of the feedback email of the contentious segment is running negative against George Stephanopoulos for emphasizing long debunked and retracted smears and for using the word “criminal” throughout the piece, what is missing is an acknowledgment of how courageous Stephanopoulos was to put O’Keefe and me on the air in the first place.

But what does that say about the state of America's media? What happened to the guardians of truth?

Connecting Some Communist Dots: The Free Gaza Movement Flotilla, Illegal Migrant Workers, May 1st Coalition and Organizing for America
